Volunteer Central
A nonprofit organization with a history of over 30 years in the Red Deer community, it was time to transform the brand and develop a new website that engaged and met the needs of both volunteers and nonprofit partner organizations.
Brand Identity
Philanthropy is an all-encompassing act not necessarily easy to illustrate. To capture the essence of community and helping others, I choose an easily identifiable icon that immediately radiates the essence of giving.
Web Design
Volunteer Central required a website that served two main audiences - volunteers and nonprofit organizations. Nonprofit organizations use the site to recruit volunteers, staff and promote events through volunteer opportunity postings, nonprofit career opportunity postings and event postings. A pain point in the volunteer recruitment process was the screening process, and finding suitable candidates with jiving schedules. I developed a new feature to the volunteer opportunity posting form that allowed organizations to include the time commitment required for the role, as well as include their cause to help would-be volunteers determine if the role was a good fit. I also devised a Volunteer Directory, accessible by partner organizations only, where Red Deer and area volunteers can create a profile that includes their skills, expertise, interests and time availability to make the screening process much quicker for organizations on the search for volunteers. Previously, organizations submitted their volunteer posting through a form, which went to an administrator, who then posted the opportunity on the site. With the site I built, organizations are able to post their opportunity directly to the site and is published in real-time for timely and efficient service.
Content Strategy and Development
Drawing off of copy from the old site, and the organization’s strategic plan (also helped develop), I wrote copy to attract a multi-generational audience of volunteers.
